Silk Drop returns to the music scene with their Traces (Remix) album. Earlier, I reviewed their standout Traces EP, which had left a lasting impression on me.  The EP is fused with jazz and blues electronic beats while melding a euphoric array of R&B and indie-rock/pop sensibilities without dispensing the soul.  Now, Silk Drop is bringing to your staple of music an intoxicating mixture of sounds and beats with the help of musical artists from around the world.

Silk Drop is the collaborative effort between Isaac Cotec, aka Subaqueous and vocalist Heather Christie.  The return of Silk Drop to the scene continues to feature the textured singing of Christie’s velvet vocals and the atmospheric elements of lush strings and the continual support from Cotec on the turntables.

Tracks like “Broken Mind” (Closet Shaman Remix), “Against the Wind” (Stereospread Remix) and “Your Paradise” (The Adaptive Remix), portrays the widely moody and haunting atmospheric music that Silk Drop is known for and imbues it with a more fueled effort filled with reverb and dubstep.  The electronic effects definitely showcases Christie’s vocal range and singing talent, as they shadow an unwavering trail of intoxicating riffs and breaks that enhance the original tracks.

Cotec highlights his arena of work with his own heightened reworking of “Kings of Beasts” (Subaqueous Remix).  Originally owning an ambiance sound to the track, Cotec syncs his expertise of EDM and melds a contagious fragmented and pixilated sound to the mixture.

The keyed up effort of “Key to Me” adds a distinct element to the darker planes of thought already in the music.  This produces an industrial depth that was not seen there before.  The blur of ecstatic beats with haunting bleeps and blips from the technological fare binds with Christie’s vulnerable vocals and adds an eclectic and electric layer to the music.

Traces (Remix) greatly embodies the band’s philosophy that we all leave traces of ourselves out in the world, which will ripple exponentially out in the system and back to us.  The Traces EP sets the foundation to these remixes, as the band continues to carry the torch in their new album Traces (Remix). Silk Drops proves they are sonically reliable as Christie’s poetically elegant vocals are enriched by mixes from DJ’s from all across the board.
