On Jan. 6, Supermassive released their debut single “Hollow Days.” The Elmira, New York-based band is comprised of former Divot members Cliff Hodson and Jeff Siptrott. With Hodson on bass/vocals and Siptrott on drums, the pair plunges into an engaging hard rock sound.
“Hollow Days” opens with steady and hefty rhythm. Piercing guitar work weaves over the top – pulling listeners in until the vocals enter. At that point, a shift occurs. Hodson’s voice almost seems to take over for the guitar, walking a line between singing and screaming. His angsty but open presentation creates an immersive sense to the track. The result is a tune that will appeal to a wide range of audiences with its blend of edge and accessibility.
As the song progresses, it remains anchored in Siptrott’s dark and driving percussion. However, there is enough variation and play to keep that tether from feeling stagnant.
