Many may know Sophia Bush as Detective Erin Lindsay from Chicago P.D., but fans of One Tree Hill know her as part of that teen zeitgeist.

The 34-year-old has remained quiet about her  five-month marriage to OTH co-star Chad Michael Murray, despite the incessant tabloid fascination about its demise.

Case in point: In 2014,  Bush appeared on Watch What Happens Live and received a caller question regarding her relationship with her ex.

However, Bush had always taken the high road in her response.

"That's such an interesting question," she said. "But my mother once said to me that if you don't have anything nice to say, not to say anything at all."

Bush then elaborated, "We were two stupid kids who had no business being in a relationship in the first place."

Now, the actress has penned an essay in Cosmopolitan about her philosophy about finding The One and why she has avoided discussing her short-lived union with her co-star.

"In my 20s, when I was starting out my career as an actor, I wasn’t looking for a relationship, but one found me and became serious, even though I hadn’t planned to settle down until my 30s." Bush continued, "But when the person you’re with asks you to marry him, you think: This must be happening because it’s supposed to."

The USC alumna, nevertheless, refuses to let that relationship define her.

"The reality is that, yes, it was a massive event in my life," she said. "And the trauma of it was amplified by how public it became."

So how does Sophia view relationships now? "Some are meant to heal you, some are meant to teach you how to build yourself up, and some are meant to show you how to trust your own intuition."

While she has learned that success in relationships are never black-and-white, she does offer this: "When you take the pressure of The One off, you’ll open yourself up to endless possibilities."
