Soulja Boy might have to postpone his boxing match with Chris Brown because he is facing felony gun charges.
According to The Wrap, Soulja Boy, who real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was charged with possession of an assault weapon, unlawful firearm activity: possession of a firearm in violation of a probation. He was in possession of an illegal Mini Draco AR-IS and a Glock 21.45 caliber gun. The rapper was also charged with a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property as the Glock gun was reported stolen from a police vehicle.
Soulja Boy pleaded not guilty to the charges in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday, Jan. 23. If convicted he faces more than four years in prison.
This isn’t the first time that Soulja Boy has had a run-in with the law. In 2011, he was arrested on felony drug and weapon charges after a traffic stop in Georgia and in 2014 he was arrested after police found a concealed weapon in a car in which he was a passenger, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The rapper currently stars in VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Hollywood. The boxing match with Brown is scheduled for March.
