Metallica's performance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards Sunday came a with technical error that left lead singer James Hetfield "livid" according to drummer Lars Ulrich.

By now, many are aware of the microphone audio error that happened at the Grammys during Metallica's performance with Lady Gaga, which resulted in Hetfield singing into an unplugged mic for the first part of the song before kicking the mic stand over in anger and joining Gaga so they could share a mic. At the end of the song, he threw his guitar in disgust.

In a new interview on The Late Show, Metallica drummer Ulrich said, "I haven't seen him like that in 20 years. I mean he was livid.

"In the heat of the battle you're out there you're playing when it's a technical issue you don't really know is it going to the house," Ulrich explained. "Is his vocals gong to the truck? Maybe it's the monitors, so you just gotta keep playing."

The technical issue with Hetfield wasn't the only  mishap of the night. There were actually several blunders during the night such as when Laverne Cox introduced Lady Gaga but forgot to mention it was Metallica's performance featuring Lady Gaga or when Megadeth won Best Metal Performance and was awarded to none other than the Metallica song Master of Puppets. Ironic.

Ulrich continued to say that he thought the performance overall went well, "we fought through it, and, you know, with the fire and Gaga in my lap for a minute at one point, it was just keep going, keep going, keep going. So we just fought through it."

As for the mishap "it at least made for great television," he said. And yes it certainty is a moment many are still talking about.
