Already one of the fiercest ballerinas the world has ever seen, Misty Copeland decided to drop some beauty wisdom during a recent interview.

The 34-year-old principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre told Allure Magazine that she swore by clear mascara in her teen years.

“I was shy and introverted as a kid, [and more] makeup would have drawn attention to me,” she said.

Copeland also shared that her first beauty idol was none other than her mom.

"She never left the house without mascara and lipstick, no matter where she was going. I remember her teaching me, from a young age, to brush my lips when I was brushing my teeth to get the dead skin off and keep your lips smooth. That’s something I still do to this day," she recalls.

Copeland's first lifestyle and fitness book, Ballerina Body: Dancing and Eating Your Way to a Leaner, Stronger, and More Graceful You, will be released in March and she had no shortage of grooming tips to share. The prima ballerina recommends using Neutrogena Makeup-Removing wipes between shows and admits to buying much of her makeup at the drugstore.

One thing Ms. Copeland is not really a fan of is contouring. “It’s so beautiful to be yourself and to be different," she recommends, as opposed to “like this contoured robot.”
