Chelsea Clinton knows how to take a joke, but she also knows how to turn it into a beautiful sentiment.

SNL star, Vanessa Bayer, opened with a speech at Variety’s Power of Women luncheon on Friday, April 21, in NYC. The events honored Jessica Chastain, Blake Lively, Audra McDonald, Tina Knowles, Shari Redstone, Gayle King and Chelsea Clinton.

During her opening the comedian joked, “They all have one thing in common, none of their moms are president.”

During Clinton's speech, which mostly focused on her work with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, which aims to fight childhood obesity, she avoided politics. However at the end, the 37 year-old came up with the perfect response to Bayer's zinger. "Vanessa, we may be able to say in this room today that no one’s mother is currently president," Cinton said. "But some day, someone’s will be."

That line garnered a standing ovation from everyone in the audience.

Earlier in her speech the former Secretary of State's daughter thanked her mother saying, “I’m particularly proud and grateful for the example that my mother has always set. It’s always better to get caught trying than to have never tried at all."
