The Fate of the Furious continues to dominate the competition at the weekend box office. The film took an expected drop during its second weekend, but still brought in a solid $38.6 million at the domestic box office raising its total domestic gross to $163.6 million.

Box Office Mojo reports that Fate of the Furious will be the third film of 2017 to pass $200 million domestically. The film is also expected to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide later this week.

The Boss Baby remained in second place this weekend with $12.8 million and is closing in on $140 million domestically after 24 days. Beauty and the Beast also remains in third place with $10 million and has grossed $471.1 domestically after 38 days.

The new releases this weekend all had very disappointing openings. Born in China was the only one to make it in the top five, finishing in fourth place with $5.1 million. Unforgettable came in seventh place with $4.8 million and The Promise came in ninth place with $4.1 million.

Going in Style ($5 million) and Smurfs: The Lost Village ($4.9 million) came in fifth and sixth place and both passed $30 million domestically. Gifted came in eighth place with $4.5 million and has passed $10 million domestically.

The other two new releases both finished outside the top 10. Phoenix Forgotten came in eleventh place with $2 million and Free Fire came in seventeenth place with $1 million. I don’t expect either of these films to break into the top 10.

The Fate of the Furious has a very good chance of remaining box office champion for a third straight week as it will go against two new releases including the thriller The Circle, starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson.
