Lifetime has green-lighted the original movie Cocaine Godmother starring Catherine Zeta-Jones as drug lord Griselda Blanco.

The film will be going into production this year, says Deadline and will premiere on Lifetime sometime in 2018.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is based on the true story of the Colombian born Blanco who illegally moved to New York City at age 17 with her first husband. She quickly got involved with the local drug scene, smuggling in cocaine from Columbia and using attractive women, the elderly and children as drug mules. Blanco soon expanded her operation to Miami and grew in infamy. Her use of violence and force against competitors along with the death of her husband gave her the nickname "Black Widow." She later moved to California to protect her family, but after being arrested and deported back to Colombia, she was eventually gunned down in 2012. Blanco was suspected of ordering the murders of over 200 people.

Cocaine Godmother was written by David McKenna and directed by Guillermo Navarro. The film is being produced by Asylum Entertainment along with Steven Michaels, Jonathan Koch, Joan Harrison and Alisa Tager.
