The third weekend in August has given us another new box office champion.

The action comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard finished in first place with an opening weekend of $21.6 million. This is slightly better than predicted and I’m predicting that this film will gross around $70-$75 million domestically.

Annabelle: Creation fell to second place this week after a 56% drop during its second weekend. The film still delivered $15.5 million and is close to passing $65 million domestically. The Conjuring film franchise just passed $1 billion worldwide with the release of only four films. Impressive numbers for a horror franchise.

Logan Lucky opened in third place with a very disappointing opening of only $8 million. The strong reviews couldn’t help the film find a solid audience and I see this film quickly falling out of the top five.

Dunkirk dropped two spots to fourth place with $6.7 million and has passed $165 million domestically after 31 days. Dunkirk also just recently passed Batman Begins as his fifth largest worldwide release to date.

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature rounds out the top five with $5.1 million and is approaching $20 million domestically.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is close to passing $315 million domestically while Girls Trip passed $100 million domestically after 31 days. Wind River expanded to a wider release and rounds out the top ten with $3 million.

We could have another new box office champion next weekend as we only have two wide releases opening and I’m predicting that The Hitman’s Bodyguard will remain the box office champion.
