Streaming television online is what’s hot right now. Hulu just won their first Emmy for best drama series with The Handmaid’s Tale, Netflix is straight killing it with all their original properties such as Stranger Things and GLOW and even Disney has announced that they’re working on their own streaming program.

Amazon Studios has not been in the forefront of this press. While their shows Transparent (which is a actually pretty good series, and is releasing their fourth season on Sept. 22) and Mozart in the Jungle have gained a mild number of viewers, they haven’t reached the huge commercial success that other streaming networks have had.

According to an article on Tubefilter, Amazon is looking to up their game and has released an account of their future programming which shows that the network is attempting to launch a series of new shows with bigger names attached, in hopes it will appeal to a wider audience.

Such properties include a comic book adaptation produced by Seth Rogen (which, purely speculation, could potentially tie into Preacher some how given his work on that show), a comedy with Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen and a Chinese-American story directed by Wong Kar-wai.

CEO of Amazon Studios Roy Price told Variety, “It comes out of analysis of the data and conversations among the leadership team. We’ve been looking at the data for some time, and as a team we’re increasingly focused on the impact of the biggest shows. It’s pretty evident that it takes big shows to move the needle.”

In light of this news, Amazon has recently and abruptly canceled their biographical show Z: The Beginning of Everything as well, due to lack of viewership and a large budget.
