The box office has been slumping for the past month but It brought some life back into the box office this past weekend. The highly anticipated horror film adapted from the popular Stephen King novel shattered records and brought in $117 million during its opening weekend.

The film broke several records including the largest September opening, the largest Fall opening and the largest opening for an R-rated film. It delivered the second largest opening for an R-rated film, only behind 2016’s Deadpool. I personally saw the film this weekend and thought it was very good and I thought it was one of the better movies of 2017.

Home Again debuted in second place with $9 million. It was a fairly modest debut considering all of the attention was on It this weekend.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard dropped to third place with $4.9 million and is approaching $65 million domestically after 24 days.

Annabelle: Creation brought in $4 million and is approaching $100 million domestically. Wind River rounds out the top five with $3.2 million and has reached $25 million domestically.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is closing in on $330 million domestically. Dunkirk passed $180 million domestically after 52 days.

Despicable Me 3 is closing in on $260 million domestically while Wonder Woman passed $410 million domestically and is approaching $815 million worldwide after 101 days.

I predict It will retain the top spot at the box office even though it faces stiff competition from three new wide releases including the new horror movie Mother! starring Jennifer Lawerence.
