That didn't take long.
It just opened in theaters this past weekend and New Line has already announced that the Stephen King property will be getting a sequel, coming in 2019. Given that that the film has made over $117 million at the box office — the all-time best opening weekend for a horror movie and also for a film released in September — this seems like a no-brainer.
The sequel, which, given the first film’s end credits, will presumably be called It: Chapter 2, will take place 27 years after the events of the first film, when the Losers Club have to return to Derry as adults and defeat Pennywise once again.

Gary Dauberman, screen-writer of It, has been hired to write the second film. It’s assumed that director Andy Muschietti will return as well, but this has not yet been confirmed by New Line.
New Line also hasn’t confirmed whether or not any of the young actors that make up the Losers Club will return. It’s possible they could re-appear through flashbacks — something that the novel heavily relies on.
However, now the speculation begins as to guessing who will play the adulthood version of these characters. Given the film’s stellar box office performance, New Line has the opportunity to go after A-list talent should they chose.
There’s no exact release date for It: Chapter 2 as of yet, but we’re already excited to float all over again.
