Kingsman: The Golden Circle barely beat out It this weekend to claim the top spot at the box office.

The action sequel brought in $39 million during its opening weekend. This is slightly higher than the $36.2 million opening of the original Kingsman back in 2014. I’m thinking that this film will be able to have a domestic gross between $130-$140 million. The film received decent reviews so it will be interesting to see how much it drops next weekend.

It came in second place with another impressive weekend. The film brought in $30 million during its third weekend and has passed $265 million domestically. It is now the highest grossing R-rated horror movie of all-time surpassing The Exorcist.

The Lego Ninajgo Movie came in third place with an opening that came in slightly under projections. The film opened with $21.2 million and it will be interesting to see if this film will be able to have the success The Lego Batman Movie had earlier this year.

American Assassin dropped two spots to fourth place with $6.2 million and is approaching $30 million domestically.

Home Again slipped one spot to round out the top five with $3.3 million and passed $20 million domestically after 17 days.

mother! took a 58% drop during its second weekend and brought in $3.2 million. It looks like the film is going to struggle to reach the $30 million domestic range.

The other two wide releases that opened struggled to find audiences. Friend Request came in seventh place with $2.4 million. The new drama Stronger starring Jake Gyllenhaal finished in ninth place with $1.8 million.

Next week we have two new films opening including the crime drama American Made starring Tom Cruise and the remake of the sci-fi drama Flatliners.
