It has only been one week since Colin Trevorrow was removed from the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX and then replaced by Force Awakens and Star Trek director J.J. Abrams, but some Star Wars fans have already created an online petition in hopes to remove Abrams for the project.
The petition, which can be found on Change.org, states, “Although not reflected in the box office sales, most fans agree that Abrams’ vision for Episode VII resulted in a rehash of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. There was virtually no creativity, and no risks taken.”
The petition then goes on to explain how box office sales should not quantify the success of a Star Wars film, and that true Star Wars fans deserve and demand better.
Currently, there are 2,225 supporters who have signed.
However, not all Star Wars fans feel the same way. They took to Twitter to blast the petition, saying:
It’s likely that nothing will result from all of this. Online petitions are created all the time in the film community by die-hard fans with questionable tactics, and then ultimately ignored by Hollywood executives. Neither J.J. Abrams or Kathleen Kennedy have responded.
Star Wars: Episode IX was originally suppose to come out in the summer of 2019, but has since been delayed until Dec. 20, 2019.
