Acclaimed producer and performer Temporary Hero picks it up a notch with his rich and bold endeavor, Indigo. The eclectic electro-pop artist dares to traverse beyond the fundamentals of the dance music scene with a record that draws from his long list of musical influences without impairing on his unique sound.
Far from being a newcomer to the scene, Temporary Hero is a seasoned producer who has captivated audiences with his top 20 track, “Wildjoy,” and his award-winning music video, “Circus.”
Following the success of his single and music video, Temporary Hero put on his travelling boots and went on a tropical adventure to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands after a personal tragedy offset his life. The artist was able to reinvigorate while his time there, while the island also served as a premise of inspiration. The ocean, the waves, and the sun became fodder for not only his soul, but also for his newest LP, Indigo. The latest album was conjured straight from his experiences while on his island stay. Tracks like “Can I Kiss You Now?” was written and recorded in both the towns of Christiansted and Fredenksted on St. Croix.
Distinct traces of island flavor can be seen igniting the album, and this is evident from the get-go with the title-track “Indigo.” The pop track opens up with the inviting sounds of the harp. The smooth song has a modernized island/tropical sound to it with a R&B twist. Invigorating and reggae-inspired, this feel-good music enlists a great pop cadence vibe to it.
Ambient synths and electric electronic beats carve the way for “Deeper Water,” that wades deeper for a salsa beat. Bursting with a fiery-spirited Latin flavor, this saucy track also initiates a soaring R&B vibe. Enlisting a bit of island flavor as well as including some of his actual experiences on the island, here, the track glosses across a spirited vibration as the artist navigates us through his time enjoying the ocean.
“Can I Kiss You Now?” imbues a taste for the acoustic with the acoustic guitar tracing throughout the track. The song describes a moment in time between the singer and a girl that could eventually escalate into something more. The track hinges on this special moment, and dynamically depicts this climatic instant with drama and urgency.
“Shipwrecked” has a great pop vibe. It is a wishful track about the dramatic timeline of a relationship. About the finish to what has become a tirade, Temporary Hero sings with all facades down about keeping it real. That it’s too late to bridge what happened in the storm, and that “sometimes the answer is not evident.” The artist fearlessly sings in this lovelorn track about not letting himself “drown” in the debacle.
Upbeat drumming resounds on “Appreciate Me” towards the beginning. This great flowy track is a slow-striding ballad about not getting the recognition in the world of a relationship. It is precisely an outcry to being underappreciated. The track can sound a bit whiny but overall the music is very lovely, harvesting an effectual sound with the beseeching vocals.
On “Strip Me (Love Make Me Strong),” evident is a hip hop vibe with a bit of light rapping style coming from Temporary Hero’s unique vocals. Blended with a R&B vibe, the song is sung like a mantra as Temporary Hero asks love to make him stronger.
More of the island-flavor emerges in such tracks like the dynamic sound coming from “Something More Than Paradise,” inspired by the island he travelled to, Temporary Hero coos about how he found a soul he coins as “something more than paradise,” the shell-shocked rendition of a relationship gone bad in “I’m Not Gonna Hurt,” in the stripped down ballad sung with incandescent emotion, “Doesn’t Last Forever (Rain Song),” and ending with the resonating song that has Temporary Hero showcasing his eclecticism in this acoustic version of the electronic Latin fusion number, “Deeper Water (Stripped).”
On Indigo, Temporary Hero projects a group of carefully crafted songs. The 10-tracked island-infused album is a stroke of genius. The plump, electronic pop sounds covered on the record is highly compatible to the clubbing scene or dance floors everywhere.
Temporary Hero sheds his skin as he sings with rapport about his ties whether they be relational or elemental – ties that bind him to the ocean, the waves, the beach, the island, etc.
Indigo prompts us to be inspired by the soaring sounds that edgily convey the emotions and at times at stakes experiences that the singer/producer delves into in his daring record. At times tumultuous, Indigo blares into the mindset of someone on the go. He is not one to sit still, and his music takes us on that musical journey. Transcend yourself on an island adventure, as Temporary Hero’s sound transposes you from the ordinary and to a paradise of your wildest dreams!
