Enough is enough.
Can’t get enough of the world that George R. R. Martin created — one that’s full of war, dragons and incest? Well you’re in luck: HBO currently has five prequel Game of Thrones series in development, all set in Westeros.
The series itself may only have one more season to go before it’s over, but Entertainment Weekly is reporting that co-executive producer Bryan Cogman has just been hired to write another prequel series. Cogman wrote such episodes as “Stormborn” in Season 7, “Oathkeeper” in Season 4, “Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things” in Season 1 and several others.

There’s been no word on what this series, or any of the other four, will actually be about. The only thing we actually know is they’re all set years before Game of Thrones and won’t contain any of the current cast in leading roles.
We've had previous frustrations with Hollywood for rebooting and prequel-izing everything, the latest target being Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but this one really feels like overkill. Overkill, on top of overkill, on top of overkill. We love Game of Thrones, of course, but announcing five different series without announcing what any of them are going to be about seems like a cash-grab for HBO.

We don’t seem to be the only ones who think so, because even current Game of Thrones show-runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have passed on working on any of these projects.
The good news is that just because all these projects are in development, it doesn’t mean all five of them will find their way to air. It's possible that only one or two of these projects will ever see the light of day. Still, we would argue that one is more than enough.
