Warning: Spoilers for Season 1 and 2 of Preacher follow.

AMC’s hit-show Preacher created by comedic legends Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen — is finished up its second season with the finale airing on September 11, 2017.

Based on a gleefully obscene graphic novel of the same name, Preacher follows a trio of misfits — a Texan minister with a ‘heavenly’ gift named Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his trigger-happy and possibly unstable ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and a crass vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) — as they journey cross-country on a mission to find God.

Not in a spiritual sense, either. They are literally looking for the physical representation of God, which they believe they’ll find somewhere in the United States. This knowledge comes straight from Heaven itself — the angels are claiming that God has gone missing and are meanwhile running amok looking for someone to take his place.

Absurd, violent and at times surprisingly profound, Preacher is a show that has been worth watching from the get-go — even despite some of the second season’s slower pace. As another chapter closes on the life of Jesse Custer, we took a look back at some of the best and craziest scenes in which we couldn’t believe what we were seeing during the first two seasons of Preacher.
