The Force remains strong as Star Wars: The Last Jedi remains the box office champion for the third week in a row. The film brought in $53 million and should finish the three-day weekend around $57 million.
The Last Jedi also passed $510 million domestically and is now the highest grossing domestic release of 2017. Beauty and the Beast brought in $504 million domestically and held the top spot for most of the year. This is the third straight year that a Star Wars film has been the highest grossing domestic release.
The rest of the top five remained the same. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle brought in another $50 million and is having an impressive run. The film is approaching $170 million domestically. The positive cinema score and impressive cast are some of the reasons for this film's success.
Pitch Perfect 3 finished in third place with $16.8 million and passed $60 million domestically. It just passed Pitch Perfect’s gross of $65 million but it will be hard for it to pass Pitch Perfect 2.
The Greatest Showman and Ferdinand round out the top five. The Greatest Showman brought in $15.6 million and is approaching $50 million domestically. Ferdinand brought in $11.4 million and is approaching $55 million domestically.
All the Money in the World opened in seventh place with $5.6 million. Downsizing continues to be a disappointment as it brought in only $4.7 million and still has yet to reach $20 million domestically.
Molly’s Game finished outside of the top ten. The film came in thirteenth place with $2.3 million and has reached $5 million domestically. The film has received excellent reviews and should see an increase in profit once it is released into more theaters.
It is very likely that The Last Jedi will remain at the top of the box office for another week as we only have one wide release this week. Insidious: The Last Key is the latest entry in the horror franchise.
