The first box office weekend of April saw a new box office champion as A Quiet Place delivered a solid opening weekend.

The horror film starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt brought in $50 million during its opening weekend. This is the second largest opening weekend of 2018 so far but that will probably change in the next few weeks as the opening of Infinity War looms. The film has received much praise from critics and I expect this film to definitely cross $100 million domestically.

Ready Player One dropped to second place with $25.1 million and is closing in on $100 million domestically. The film only dropped 40 percent during its second weekend. The film is also doing well at the international box office as its international gross is approaching $300 million.

The new comedy Blockers opened in third place with $21.4 million. This is slightly more than the other R-rated comedy Game Night that was released back in February. My early prediction is that this film will finish between $60-$70 million at the domestic box office.

Black Panther dropped one spot to fourth place. The film brought in $8.4 million and still only dropped 27% during its eighth week of release. The film also passed Titanic and at $665.3 million it stands as the third highest grossing domestic release of all-time.

I Can Only Imagine rounds out the top five with $8.4 million and is approaching $70 million domestically. The film only dropped 20% during its fourth week of release.

Chappaquiddick opened in seventh place with $6.2 million while The Miracle Season failed to open inside the top ten. The film opened in eleventh place with $4.1 million. Both films have received decent reviews and it will be interesting to see how these films perform over the next couple weeks.

Acrimony ($8,1 million), Sherlock Gnomes ($5.6 million), Pacific Rim: Uprising ($4.9 million) and Isle of Dogs ($4.6 million) round out the top ten. Isle of Dogs actually moved up one spot from eleventh and should continue to perform as it expands into a wider release next weekend.

A Quiet Place will face plenty of competition next weekend as four new wide releases are opening including Rampage, the latest action film from Dwayne Johnson.
