Having to say “The End” couldn’t have a better “beginning.”

Avengers: Infinity War has had a grand entrance in India, clocking more than $200 million on the first day of its release on April 27. No film in India, be it Hollywood or Bollywood has seen an opening so grand.

Being screened in 2,000 theaters across India, the film kicked off at the range of 75-80 percent of ticket sales at the box office.

India has always been a remunerative market when it comes to superhero movies and Infinity War has been riding high on expectation and anticipation among trade pundits who were hopeful for the film to be a big bang for the buck.

Trade analyst Girish Jauhar was more than surprised to see the crazy number of advanced bookings for the movie. He recalls such frenzy among moviegoers when the movie Baahubali released.

He told India Express, “I was surprised (in a good way) to see the magnificent numbers for the film’s advance bookings. There has been a lot of buzz around the film and the last time we saw so much excitement was during the release of Baahubali. I hope the film does really good.”

And it has been.

Ashish Saksena, Chief Operating Officer – Cinemas, BookMyShow, says even the 3D version of the movie has seen record sales, “The response to ticket bookings for ‘Avengers: Infinity War ‘has been extremely encouraging across formats. And while, as expected, the craze for watching the film on an IMAX screen is huge, the sales have been remarkable even for the 3D format.”

Rajender Singh Jyala, Chief Programming Officer, INOX Leisure Limited remarked similarly about the advanced booking response of Avengers: Infinity War, saying that the movie is leading across all their multiplexes.

Infinity War also surpassed opening figures of films like Baaghi 2 and Padmaavat. Baaghi 2 released on 3500 screens with an opening range of 50-55 percent and Padmaavat was released on 3,750 screens amidst a lot of controversy in the range of 40-45 percent.

The film has been dubbed in Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Infinity Wars, which assembles and ‘reassembles’ all of Marvel’s superheroes against the Mad Titan Thanos, is set to bring the deadliest and the most exciting showdown ever on the big screen to bring the film’s arc to a closure.
