Infinity War had no problem remaining at the top of the box office for the third straight weekend and continues to break records.
The film brought in $61.8 million during its third weekend and is approaching $550 million domestically. Infinity War is now the eighth largest domestic release of all-time and has also set the record for the highest international superhero release of all-time. It is also the fifth highest global release of all-time. I still stand by my prediction that this will be the highest grossing domestic release of the year.
Life of the Party opened in second place with $18.5 million. The comedy starring Melissa McCarthy had a decent opening considering the massive competition it was going against. This opening does mark the lowest opening for a McCarthy film behind 2014’s Tammy which had an opening of $21.7 million.
Breaking In opened in third place with $16.6 million. A decent opening which looked good considering the budget of the film was around $6 million. I predict this is the only week that this film will spend in the top five.
Overboard dropped two spots to fourth place with $10.1 million. The film saw a 31 percent drop during its second weekend. The film is approaching $30 million domestically.
A Quiet Place rounds out the top five with $6.4 million and is about to cross $170 million domestically after six weeks of release. The film’s worldwide gross should continue to increase as it has yet to open in several international markets.
Black Panther has remained inside the top ten for 13 straight weeks. The film finished in ninth place with $1.9 million and is close to passing $700 million domestically. It would join Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avatar as the only films to cross $700 million domestically.
I Feel Pretty ($3.7 million), Rampage ($3.4 million), Tully ($2.2 million) and RBG ($1.2 million) round out the rest of the top ten.It is going to be very interesting to see if Infinity War can remain the box office champion for a fourth straight week. It will face its toughest competition yet as it goes against the highly anticipated sequel Deadpool 2 starring Ryan Reynolds. It is opening in 4,250 locations, which makes it the widest R-rated release ever, surpassing the 4,103 locations that IT opened in last September.
