Tracking numbers at the box office suggest that Deadpool 2 would be off to big start, projected to earn between $130 million and $150 million in its opening weekend alone.
These staggering figures are on par with the first foul-mouthed superhero movie, Deadpool that opening to $132.4 million in February 2016 and earning $783 million worldwide to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
The opening figures of Deadpool 2 are also competing with another heroic powerhouse, Avengers: Infinity War. With a record-breaking debut on April 27, Avengers is predicted to surpass the $250 million mark to become one of the biggest openings of all time.
Deadpool 2 and Infinity War share one thing in common – Josh Brolin, who is having the best year ever. Being called the secret weapon of Deadpool 2, thanks to the Midas touch, Brolin plays the dark antihero Cable in the movie. He is a time-traveling baddie with a weaponized metal arm. (Reminds you of someone?)
The movie is Brolin's second round at the superhero box office this year. Before his role as Cable, he played the role of the Mad Titan Thanos, the giant purple villain who was set on a mission to hunt for six infinity stones that would help him wipe out half the world’s population.
Deadpool 2, directed by David Leitch, is about a cheeky hero who forms an armed band namely X force in hopes of standing up against and stopping the evil Cable (Josh Brolin). The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand and Jack Kesy.
Currently, Deadpool 2 is busting records of its prequel Deadpool’s 83 percent score with 87 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
