Who better than Iron Man to talk about AI?
Robert Downey Jr. is partnering with YouTube Red for a currently untitled series about artificial intelligence.
Downey Jr. and his wife Susan along with Team Downey studio will be hosting 8 hour-long episodes that will air in 2019.
Iron Man himself will be executive producer on the series, while also hosting and narrating, while Derik Murray and Paul Gertz, of Network Entertainment, will produce the docuseries.
According to CNET, each episode will offer interviews with experts in science and technology, while possibly reaching into similar fields such as robotics.
“Robert and I share a curiosity for A.I., a complicated and often polarizing subject. Our aim is to explore A.I. through a lens of objectivity and accessibility, in a thoroughly bold, splashy, and entertaining way. We’re thrilled to bring this project to life along with Network Entertainment, Sonar, and YouTube Red,” Susan shared with Variety.
The news comes just ahead of the $9.99 a month service's plan for global expansion.
Adding Downey Jr's name to a list that includes Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Eminem is speculated to bring higher credibility to the system that is simply known for making vloggers famous and, of late, quite a bit of scandal.
Tom Harrington of Enders Analysis told the BBC, "This is just them diversifying. It gives the whole product offering a look that isn't a bunch of kids talking at a camera and pulling pranks, which is the dismissive attitude that a lot of people take to vloggers."
Will having the Avenger host a show on AI give YouTube Red some credibility? Who wouldn't want Tony Stark to talk artificial intelligence with them? We shall see if the man behind the character has the same effect.
