Luke Hyams, YouTube’s new head of originals for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), announced plans for 50 new YouTube Premium originals in 2019.

Hyams made the announcement at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Tuesday, where he further described what content the company is looking for, according to Tubefilter. For scripted programming, Hyams revealed YouTube was looking for “personality-driven, authored pieces with the potential for international appeal.”

For unscripted programming, they’re looking for “social impact stuff that is entertaining.” YouTube has always had an interest in “social impact” content and has in recent years created YouTube’s Creators for Change, which brings content creators together to combat hate and spread awareness and acceptance.

YouTube has made a more aggressive effort to recruit big-name stars to its platform, including Will Smith, who will broadcast his 50th birthday bungee jump over the Grand Canyon on the platform.
