On the latest episode of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, Detective O’Reilly looks for Tandy, while Tandy and Tyrone meet again in real life and dreams.
Previously on Cloak & Dagger, Tandy and Tyrone discovered they have powers. Tandy stabbed a guy who tried to sexually assault her, and Tyrone found the cop who killed his brother. Tandy tried to leave New Orleans, and Tyrone tried to shoot the cop. Instead, they both ended up on the same road and Tyrone shot at Tandy’s stolen car.
“Stained Glass” opens on Tandy in the forest, having been thrown from the car. Tyrone tries to calm her down, but he’s still holding the gun and she’s scared. She recognizes him and he tries to explain that he doesn’t want to hurt her and was transported to her location somehow. They hear sirens and she drives away, despite being injured.
Detective O’Reilly visits attempted rapist Rick in the hospital, trying to get information from him about Tandy. He claims he was attacked by a man and talks about how his uncle’s police connections. She mentions his cuts look like fingernail scratches and asks why his pants weren’t buckled. He refuses to answer.
Tandy wipes her prints from the stolen car and goes to her mother’s home. While she’s cleaning herself up in the bathroom, her mom Melissa comes in and the two argue. She notices the blood and asks Tandy what happened. Tandy brushes her off and they hear someone knock on the door. It’s O’Reilly and she’s looking for Tandy. Melissa claims Tandy hasn’t been home in weeks. Melissa’s boyfriend says the detective can’t come in without a warrant when she asks to step inside. O’Reilly says she wants to help protect Tandy, believing she was the victim of an assault. When she leaves, Melissa goes back to the bathroom to find the window open and Tandy gone.
Tandy gets on a bus and continues to hear a high pitched ringing. Tandy opens her eyes and sees the bus is empty. She hears a sound and exits the bus. She finds herself on a neighborhood court watching a young Tyrone bouncing a basketball.
The scene goes back to the beginning of the episode, only this time it’s from Tyrone’s point of view. When Tandy drives away, Tyrone hides in the woods as the cop car passes. He goes to church and prays, asking his dead brother Billy for guidance. His classmate Evita comes in and hears him mention being cursed. Evita says she thinks she can help.
Tyrone meets Evita later during a tour she gives as a New Orleans Voodoo tour guide. She takes them to a Catholic church used by Marie Laveau, who practiced Voodoo. She takes them to Marie’s grave and explains some people think the dead woman still grants wishes. Evita asks for a volunteer and Tyrone does the ritual to receive his wish.
Evita takes Tyrone to meet her Auntie Chantelle. She reads him and says he needs to cleanse himself, giving him a list of ingredients to buy. Evita and Tyrone go to his house and he puts the items in the tub and gets naked. Evita stands nearby and tells him to try and relax. When he opens his eyes, no one is around. He walks outside and finds himself back on the rooftop where he first appeared when he used his powers. He sees a young Tandy in her ballet outfit.
Tandy asks young Tyrone what’s going on, but he doesn’t reply. Billy comes and plays basketball with his brother. He gives Tyrone a check. She has another vision, this time of a present age Tyone. He picks up a gun and shoots Connors while his parents look on. Tyrone has two checks then, covered in blood. The police come and corner Tyrone. The scene changes, with him picking a different weapon each time. She tells him to try something else and one of her daggers appears. She places it on the table and he picks up handcuffs and Connor runs away.
Tyrone hears Tandy’s ballet instructor and sees her dance. He rushes forward to save her and then finds himself looking at a present-day Tandy watching her father being tortured by his employers. Tandy runs and he follows, finding himself back at the building. The young Tandy tries to save her dad, while the older tries to run away. Tyrone tells Tandy to not run and touches her with shadows. She pulls out her dagger and touches the glass walls of the building.
The scene disappears and both of them walk into different buildings. Tandy finds a young Tyrone crying in a room covered in checks. Tyrone finds a young Tandy giving a line of men pills in church, in a communion like setting. One is Rick, and he falls over after eating. Liam is also there and also falls over. Both Tandy and Tyrone walk toward a stained glass window. They put their hands against the window and then they both wake up. Tandy is still on the bus, shaken by her experience. Tyrone wakes back in the bath and Evita makes sure he’s alright.
Detective O’Reilly is approached by Connors. He claims he found something of Rick’s on a dead drug addict during a vice raid. She says the evidence doesn’t suggest a mugging, but he says the case is already closed. Seconds later, Tandy calls O’Reilly. She says if O’Reilly truly wants to help, she’s willing to speak.
Tyrone walks Evita home and thanks her for her help. As they’re walking, he notices the church’s stain glass window. She says she also made a wish too, and Tyrone kisses Evita. Elsewhere, Auntie Chantelle finishes a figure of Tyrone and puts it on her shelf with the other dolls.
Tandy meets with O’Reilly and finds out what happened. O’Reilly apologizes to Tandy, who shakes her head and leaves. Tandy gets back to the church and finds Tyrone waiting.
Cloak & Dagger is going strong with another solid episode in “Stained Glass.” Cloak & Dagger has a different vibe from the other Marvel shows and this episode really highlighted the difference between the dream/vision scenes. I found them interesting and well done, particularly the present day Tyrone scene in the woods and the young Tandy scene in the church. I’m excited to see Tandy and Tyrone interact more and discover how their powers work.
Cloak & Dagger airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on Freeform. Check out the preview for episode four below.
