TV series are a popular way to adapt novels. Through the magic of television, the plot and characters have time to meander throughout the storyline. This is especially helpful if the book in question has a sprawling plot, such as, for example, HBO's Game of Thrones.

TV shows also work well for miniseries, or, short series with only one season. The Crimson Petal and the White is a four-episode miniseries adaptation of the 900-page book of the same name by Michael Faber.

Series manage to adapt by streamlining; a chapter could pass in a five-minute conversation, a quarter of the novel in an episode.

Overall, TV series adapt popular novels and hopefully become popular in their own right!
