Mission: Impossible 5 now has a screenwriter. Drew Pearce, who wrote Marvel’s Iron Man 3 with director Shane Black, was tapped to write the screenplay for Ethan Hunt’s new adventure.

Both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline confirmed the news. The project is still without a director, although THR notes that Christopher McQuarrie is still in talks with Paramount to do it.

The news comes a week after the studio confirmed that Tom Cruise will be back for the franchise’s fifth film. It will follow Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, which was an international success, making $700 million.

Cruise will finish Warner Bros. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. film first, then move on to M:I 5. If McQuarrie winds up directing, the project will reunite Cruise with his Jack Reacher director.

Cruise recently starred in the sci-fi pic Oblivion.

As for Pearce, he co-wrote the script for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim, which hits theaters in July. He is also working on a script for his debut as a director.
