After weeks of the same previews, we finally got to see the fallout from Jenna’s dad telling the McKibbons that Jenna and Matty were having sex.

The phone call came after Mr. Hamilton found Jenna’s birth control pills in the guest bathroom. Matty thought he could delete the message from his family’s land-line, but it was too late. They dressed him up in his best suit, marched him over to the Hamiltons’ house and made him apologize for taking Jenna’s virginity. The two thought they were saved by the doorbell when the Hamiltons’ takeout arrived, but unfortunately for our couple, the McKibbons love Chinese and accepted an invitation for dinner. Things went smoothly enough until the meal was over and both sets of parents started fighting over the Hamilton’s decision to condone the kids’ behavior by putting Jenna on birth control. Things escalate between Matty and his parents, so he ends up back at the Hamiltons’, looking for a place to crash.

Meanwhile, Tamara was getting ready to finally have sex with Jake. She took her last selfie as a virgin and all she needed to seal the deal was for Jake to finally tell her he loved her. He did his best to set a romantic scene for her - by preparing the same minivan-bed covered in rose petals that he used when he was going to sleep with Jenna. Tamara broke out into tears over the rehashed romance. She feels like she’s always second best - both the alternate girlfriend and the alternate cheerleader. The two got swept away discussing what their perfect night would be - an eventing in a fancy hotel with champagne, a balcony and big fluffy robes - and fell into bed together. The act did not live up to their expectations but getting to hear “I love you” did.

Not only does Tamara finally feel like she’s replaced Jenna as Jake’s number one girlfriend, but she also replaces Jake’s other ex on the cheerleading squad. The girls on the team have found out that Sadie is broke, causing her to accidentally injure Lissa, removing her from the team temporarily. Sadie refuses to allow Tamara to join the team, but as the other cheerleaders point out, she no longer has the money to buy the votes to get her way.

Awkward Observations:

The best part of the fight between Matt and Jenna’s moms: “What hippie do you know has fake boobs?”

Am I the only person who watches this who is old enough to get really excited that Matty’s mom is Felicity’s old roommate?

Jenna’s mom has really been stepping it up as far as being a good parent is concerned this season. When she told Jenna that she is proud of her and “glad you’re you” after the terrible dinner, I may have had to fight back a tear.

Anthony Michael Hall was back as the writing teacher from hell. He hate Jenna’s work and loves Colin’s. Jenna kept talking about Colin to Matty, who was not paying attention. He had better watch out for the good-looking writer...
