A boy found $10,000 in the Missouri hotel room him and his father were staying at last weekend.

Tyler Schaefer, 10, was looking through the drawers of his Kansas City hotel room on Saturday when he found the large stacks of $100 bills, according to the Associated Press.

“We didn’t know what to do at first,” said Tyler’s father, Cody Schaefer.

Cody Schaefer is a truck driver and mechanic from South Dakota. He was travelling with his son to meet up with his other children for summer vacation.

The two turned the money over to off-duty security officers at the hotel, explaining how they found the cash.

The police are unsure how the money got into the hotel room and who left it. Since Thursday, no one has claimed it. According to Missouri law, the owner has around seven months to claim the money before it could be passed back to the finder.

At this time, the police have deposited the money into a bank until the owner claims the money, states local 41 Action News.
