On Tuesday, Chelsea Clinton said she hopes to take an increasing role in her father’s foundation and working with international health projects.
The daughter of the former US president was visiting Malaysia when she told the Associated Press about her focus. She hopes to return to the country, specifically Myanmar, to distribute HIV drugs, child vaccines, and other medicines at a cheaper price.
“My goal is always to do as much as I can in whatever area I’m working in,” Clinton said.
According to local Myanmar news, she visited Myanmar earlier this week to celebrate the 6 billionth liter of water donated by the Procter and Gamble Company and the Clinton Global Initiative. She helped started an initiative for water purification packets where the drinking water is not safe to drink.
Besides international health, Chelsea Clinton has become an advocate for gay rights and marriage equality. Earlier this month, she commented on France’s “progress” towards gay marriage laws.
“It just seems so fundamental to me. I’m able to marry the person I wanted to marry,” Clinton said. “That’s the fundamental human imperative. Those of us who have been lucky enough should expand these rights to others.”
