This year was already destined to be a big one for Superman, with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel hitting theaters this summer. But it’s about to get bigger now that DC Comics has finally announced its plans to celebrate the Last Son of Krypton’s 75th birthday.
Superman officially turned 75 on April 18, the day that the first issue of Action Comics was published in 1938.
Today, The Hollywood Reporter for the first look at a new logo that the Warner Bros.-owned DC Comics will use to celebrate Superman’s milestone.
DC and WB also announced a new animated short that Snyder has signed on to produce with the help of DC animation vet Bruce Timm, artist Jay Oliva, DC’s Geoff Johns and Mike Carlin and WB Animation’s Peter Girardi. The plot for the short is unknown, but THR’s sources suggest that it will be a tribute to the different versions of Superman that have been created over the years.
The short was preceded by Superman: Unbound, a WB Animation film that was released this month. A new comics series titled Superman Unchained by Jim Lee and Scott Snyder will be released on June 12.
WB Interactive has also given Superman a big role in the Infinite Crisis video game and he will star in more shorts that will debut on Cartoon Network.
“Warner Bros. is privileged to be home to the global Superman brand, which has had an unparalleled impact on popular culture for 75 years,” Warners CEO Kevin Tsujihara said in a statement. “We are proud to commemorate this milestone with exciting entertainment across the entire studio and across the globe, ensuring this enduring icon reaches new generations of audiences.”
Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14. Henry Cavill plays Superman, with Amy Adams as Lois Lane.
