The leading dictionary in France has finally embraced the French term for French kissing, “galoucher.”
According to The Associated Press, the 2014 edition of Petit Robert will include the term “galocher,” which means “to French kiss” or to kiss using tongues.
“We always had many expressions to describe 'French-kissing,' like 'kissing at length in the mouth,' but it's true, we've never had one single word,” Laurence Laporte of the dictionary’s publisher told the AP.
The Huffington Post notes that another phrase used for “to French kiss” is “baiser avec la langue,” which literally means “to kiss with tongues.” “Galocher” soon became a slang term and gained popularity in England after troops returned from World War I.
Petit Robert will include several new terms aside from “galocher.” According to France24, “viralité,” a verb that means “to go viral” is also joining the dictionary. Other new words include “clasher” (to clash) and "bombasse" (a sexually attractive person).
