Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker, who became an Internet celebrity thanks to his outrageous explanation of how he saved a woman in Fresno, California, made it to New Jersey is now the suspect of a murder there.
The New Jersey Star Ledger reports that Kai, whose real name is Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, 24, is being sought in the murder of Joseph Galfy Jr., a 73-year-old attorney in Clark, NJ.
Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow announced that McGillvary is as a suspect in the case, but didn’t say how he is connected. Romankow did say that he altered his appearance, cutting his hair to make sure that he didn’t look like the man whose face was all over the Internet in February. He was last spotted at a rail station in the Haddonfield area and is considered armed and dangerous.
The prosecutor added that Galfy died of blunt force trauma.
As we reported back in February, McGillvary became famous for his interview with a local California station, in which he described how he used a hatchet to stop the driver who picked him up from attacking a woman.
Anyone with information on McGillvary's whereabouts are urged to call Union County Crime Stoppers at (908) 654-TIPS (8477).
