On May 29th in Oklahoma City, several country music stars performed at the Healing in the Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert to raise money for victims of the May 2013 tornadoes that tore through Oklahoma. The benefit concert featured country artists such as Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert.
Lambert dedicated her number to the animals who were affected by the tornadoes according to US Magazine. Lambert chose to sing “The House That Built Me,” but found herself choking up halfway through her performance. Lambert, overwhelmed with emotion, turned the microphone towards the audience so they could help her finish her song as she mouthed the word “sorry” to the crowd. Lambert then proceeded to try to compose herself before taking back control of the microphone and finishing strong.
The benefit concert was said to have raised more than $6 million in ticket and pledge sales according to News On 6. The money will be distributed among agencies that are helping the victims of the tornadoes.
