One of the most anticipated releases of the fall isn’t a star-studded drama or action movie. It’s Salinger, a documentary that aims to answer questions about the life of Catcher in the Rye writer J.D. Salinger. The first trailer for the film was released today, promising plenty of valuable commentary and revelations.

Salinger was a passion project for Shane Salerno, who reached a deal with PBS to have the documentary air as the 200th episode of American Masters in January 2014. The Weinstein Company also has plans to release the film theatrically this fall. In September, the biography The Private War of J.D. Salinger will also be published.

After Salinger wrote The Catcher in the Rye, he became a recluse, living the last half of his life in private. Although his last published work was in the 1960s, he remained a mythic figure in American literature, as students still read Catcher in school. His book was also cited as the inspiration for criminals, including the man who shot John Lennon in 1980. The trailer features quotes from Danny DeVito, Martin Sheen and John Cusack, who all talk about the impact the book has had on their lives.

According to The Wrap, there are over 150 interviews in the documentary, including his family, friends and others close to Salinger.

The trailer shows that the film looks into his unpublished work and the impact his service in World War II had on his work.
