Fifty Shades of Grey, the hit erotic novel by EL James, has received an official film debut date of August 1, 2014.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Focus Features hoped to have the film ready for release by next summer following Universal chairman Adam Fogelson expressed his desire for a speedy debut. With the August 1 release date, Fifty Shades will not have to compete with early summer blockbusters. The film will be released worldwide through Universal Pictures International.

Following the news of the erotic novel-to-films release date, fans can now hope to hear about who will play the sexually charged leading character Christian Grey.

A number of Hollywood’s hottest actors have been rumored to be potentials for the films leading role, from Ian Somerhalder, Justin Bieber, Matt Bomer, Ryan Gosling and others.

Sam Taylor- Johnson, the film’s director, will also have to choose a leading lady to play Anastasia Steele. Harry Potter actress Emma Watson shut down rumors earlier this year that she was on call for the job, while former That ‘70s Show beauty Mila Kunis was noted last year as a hopeful to fulfill the role.

Thus far the only things concrete about the highly anticipated film are its director, its release date and a screenplay written by Terra Nova writer, Kelly Marcel.
