Christoph Waltz has found his next role in True Crimes, a crime drama based on a true story. The Django Unchained Oscar winner will play a detective who reopens a cold case and his work leads to a conviction.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the basis for the plot comes from New Yorker writer David Grann, who wrote a feature in 2008 about Krystian Bala, a Polish writer convicted of a cold case in 2007. This was a case that Polish police had never been able to solve and Bala was not a suspect during the original investigation.

Waltz will be detective Jacek Wroblewski, which will give another good guy role, following his bounty hunter part in Django. While it could be argued that he had a lead role in that film, he won his second Best Supporting Oscar for his performance.

According to CinemaBlend, this is the second project based on a Grann feature. Robert Redford and director David Lowery are currently working on The Old Man and the Gun.

Brett Ratner, John Cheng and David Gerson are producing True Crimes and are on the lookout for a director. Roman Polanski has been considered. The producers are looking for the project to be in the vein of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Waltz has a small role in Disney’s Muppets...Again! and will be working on The Candy Store from Stephen Gaghan.
