Is it possible for Hollywood to make an action movie without WWE star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson? The actor, who just starred in Fast & Furious 6, could play a part in another franchise, The Terminator. According to a report, the producers are interested in bringing him into lift the franchise.

The news comes from WWE Examiner, which notes that this would be his biggest role to date. That site posted the news back on June 7, but it didn’t start drawing attention until Thursday when Ain’t It Cool News linked to it.

The Huffington Post tried to contact Johnson’s reps to get their take, but they have not responded yet.

The bigger news in the Examiner story is that sources for the site claim to have the inside track on the plot for Terminator 5. Instead of coming after Terminator Salvation, the new film will be a prequel, set before 1984, when the Terminator was sent to kill Sarah Connor before she gave birth to John Connor. In the new film, Terminators would be sent back to the ‘40s or ‘50s to stop Sarah Connor’s parents. Arnold Schwarzenegger would play a hero who is amazingly able to kill the Terminators with old technology.

This is all speculation, since Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures and David Ellison's Skydance Productions have not released any official plot synopsis. The project was only recently fast-tracked when Paramount entered the picture and then Schwarzenegger confirmed that they would like to start shooting in January 2014.

Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier were hired to write the film, but no director is attached to the project.
