Kim Deal, the founding bassist for the Pixies, has left the group, they confirmed today.

In a message posted on their Facebook, remaining members Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering said that they wish her the best in her future projects.

“We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies,” the group wrote. “We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.”

According to Rolling Stone, Deal joined the group in 1986 after responding to a Boston Phoenix ad. For some of their early releases, she used the name Mrs. John Murphy. While the band took a break in the 1990s, Deal formed the Breeders.

Since 2004, the Pixies have been performing off and on, first reuniting for the 20th anniversary of the Doolittle album. They recently had a successful Kickstarter campaign to publish a photo-book that traces their history. The project earned raised over $230,000 from 2,297 backers.

Deal and the Breeders recently toured to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Last Splash album, notes Rolling Stone.
