Fans who were hoping to hear some of Mariah Carey’s new music sooner rather than later might be disappointed because the former American Idol judge is delaying the release of her upcoming album.
Carey says she’s delaying the release of The Art of Letting Go indefinitely because of the “creative process.”
She tweeted:
While making this album, I got so immersed in the creative process that I just don't feel I would be doing it justice to release it on 7/23.

She added, “I'd rather not exclude meaningful songs. I want to give you this album as it's meant to be heard. When I'm ready, you'll be the first 2 know!”
E! Online notes Carey, 43, was recently in Capri, Italy with singer Miguel shooting the music video for their single “Beautiful.”
As THR notes, Carey’s delaying her album gives an advantage to Selena Gomez, whose album would’ve come out on the same day as the veteran singer. Gomez’s is still on track for a July 23 release. Chris Brown’s X will come out a week before that, so she might have a chance at a No. 1 album.
