The first trailer for Diana, the Princess Diana biopic that stars Naomi Watts, has been released, promising to show a new side of one of the most famous people in the world, even 16 years after her death.
In the trailer, Watts’ back is kept to the camera for the first half and she finally reveals her face later on. There’s no dialogue, so it is really just a teaser and only lasts a minute.
When the project was first announced, it was titled Caught In Flight and centers on Diana’s relationship with Dr. Hasnat Khan and life after she and Prince charles divorced. Lost’s Naveen Andrews plays Khan. As Cinemablend notes, he can only be seen briefly in the trailer.
According to HitFix, Entertainment One has yet to set a release date for the film, but it can be expected sometime in the fall. It’s clear that Watts is hoping for another chance at an Oscar, since The Impossible actress lost out to Jennifer Lawrence in February.
Diana opens in U.K. theaters on Sept. 20. It was directed by German director Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall) and written by Stephen Jeffreys.
