Tupac Shakur’s music is going to be featured in an upcoming musical, Holler If Yak Hear Me. It is expected to hit Broadway in the 2013-2014 season.

The story is about two childhood friends and their extended family in a fictional Midwestern industrial city and their struggle to meet their dreams and reconcile while facing tough circumstances and realities Rolling Stone reports.

Shakur’s mother, Arena Shakur, is producing the musical. Other team members include Tony-winning choreographer Wayne Cilento, Wicked and Todd Kreidler, Radio Gold and Gem of the Ocean, who wrote the book. Musical supervision by Daryl Waters, set and video design by David Gallo, costume design by Reggie Ray, and lighting by Mike Baldassari. The musical will be directed by Kenny Leon, Fences and Stick Fly.

“Tupac was a prophet and I want everyone to see that. [Holler If Ya Hear Me] is a present day musical using all of Tupac’s music, but Tupac is not a character in the musical,” Leon said to Broadway.com.

The musical is currently in workshop. No theater or casting has been announced.
