Last fall, Rovio and Lucasfilm brought Angry Birds and Star Wars together, creating one of the most successful apps in history and leading to toys, shirts and even candy. Naturally, a second version is one the way, this time focusing on the prequel trilogy.
Rovio announced Monday that it and Lucasfilm are working on the new version with 30 new characters that you couldn’t play in the original game. “At this point we will not comment on rumors or speculation that Jar Jar Binks will be in the game,” Rovio said.
The original game, which launched in November, focused on the Original Trilogy, giving us Angry Bird versions of Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. They had to go up against the evil Galactic Pig Empire with its Stormtrooper pigs and Darth Vader pigs.
According to The New York Times, the new game will also have Telepods mode, which allows players to use new action figures to play the game. Your phone’s camera will read the code on the bottom of each figure, transporting the toy into the digital realm.
Angry Birds Star Wars II launches on Sept. 19 for Android phones and at the Apple app store. It will probably be more fun than actually sitting through The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones again.
