Cirque du Soleil is set to being performances of Ka once again on Tuesday, 17 days after the tragic death of Sarah Guyard-Guillot, who died during a performance. The circus troupe will perform the show without the scene she was performing.
According to the Associated Press, spokeswoman Renee-Claude Menard said Sunday that the show at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino will resume without the climactic aerial battle scene. A new “dressing-ritual” scene will replace it at the end, keeping the show’s 90-minute run time.
Menard said that the company spoke with artists and staff before making the decision to go back to work. They will dedicate the show on Tuesday to Guyard-Guillot.
Guyad-Guillot died after falling during the performance on June 29. Members of the audience told the media that they heard the screams before the show was eventually stopped. Officials later ruled her death accidental and noted that she was still in the harness. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is still investigating the incident.
Cirque, which is based in Montreal, said that the Paris-born acrobat’s death was the first in the company’s nearly 30-year history. She was a member of the cast since it opened in 2006.
The show will be performed once a night from Tuesday to Friday at 7 p.m. starting next week, the 9:30 p.m. shows will also resume.
