David Cook was asked to fill in for the frontman of Hinder, Austin Winkler who enter rehab for the second time.

Cook turned down the offer to work on his own music according to The Hollywood Reporter.

David Cook was an ideal replacement Hinder’s manger, Kevin Zaruk said. The band also asked another American Idol contestant, James Durbin.

“We would’ve loved to have either, but the timing didn’t work out,” Zaruk said.

Cook has a recording contract offer from Verve, which is run by David Foster who has worked with other Idol albums.

On the tour, Winkler will be replaced by Jared Weeks from Saving Able and Marshal Dutton from Drankmore Noise Creep reports.

A statement from the band said, “We want to le you know Austin has decided to temporarily leave the tour for personal reasons. However, the band has decided . . . we’re going to keep the good times rolling on the road this summer. We have some guest filling in to help us out and promise you won’t be disappointed!”

Hinder is best known for their number three chart-hitting track “Lips of an Angel.” They will kick off the tour in West Fargo, ND.
