Director Joseph Kosinski is sticking with science fiction for his next project. The Oblivion director is reportedly in talks to make a Twilight Zone movie at Warner Bros.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way with his producing partner, Jennifer Davisson Killoran. Appian Way is based at Warner Bros. Scott Bloom is also producing.
Variety, which also confirmed the news, reports that Warner Bros. has been trying to get the project moving since 2009 as a tentpole, since the name Twilight Zone is a memorable property. The original TV series was created by Rod Serling and ran from 1959 to 1964 as an anthology series on CBS. The show inspired a 1983 film which borrowed the anthology style with four different stories, but Variety says that the new film will have just one story.
The script has already changed hands several times. At one point Rand Ravich (The Astronaut’s Wife) and Joby Harold were working on it and the latest draft was penned by Sherlock Holmes’ Anthony Peckham. THR notes that it’s being redeveloped again with Kosinski in mind.
Kosinski has showed a unique visual style with 2010’s Tron Legacy and this year’s Oblivion with Tom Cruise. He’s also in talks with Disney for another Tron film.
There have been recent attempts to bring The Twilight Zone back to the small screen as well. Bryan Singer was interested in December. J.J. Abrams is also reportedly looking to turn Serling’s last script into a series.
