Bruce Willis reportedly left Expendables 3 over a salary dispute. The Die Hard star had requested $4 million to work on the film, but producers would only offer him $3 million.

Sources for The Hollywood Reporter said that producers told Willis that he would get $3 million to fly to Bulgaria and work for just four days. Willis refused, asking for another $1 million.

“He said he'd drop out unless he got $4 million,” the source told THR. “A million dollars a day. Stallone and everybody else involved said no.”

Just days after the dispute, co-writer and star Sylvester Stallone took to Twitter to announce that Harrison Ford would be replacing Willis. Then, he accused Willis of being “greedy and lazy.” With THR’s report, we now know what Stallone was talking about.

Another insider for THR adds that willis must have been “surprised” to be replaced within 72 hours.

Willis could probably have used the paycheck though, since Red 2 has only made $80 million worldwide so far. Then again, A Good Day To Die Hard and G.I. Joe: Retaliation both made over $300 million worldwide earlier this year.

The Expendables 3 is being directed by Patrick Hughes, who follows Simon West and Stallone. The budget for the film is at $80 million, but Stallone has still been able to bring in other action veterans like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and Wesley Snipes. The film hits theaters in August 2014.
