Chloe Moretz made headlines when she made the original Kick Ass, playing Hit Girl in such a violent film at a young age. The 16-year-old is reprising the role in Kick Ass 2, which was also criticized for its violence by Jim Carrey, who happens to be in the movie with her. She slammed Carrey’s tweets from June, in which he said he couldn’t support the film.
“It's a movie. If you are going to believe and be affected by an action film, you shouldn't go to see Pocahontas because you are going to think you are a Disney princess,” she told The U.K. Sun, reports TheWrap.
Moretz continued, “If you are that easily swayed, you might see The Silence of the Lambs and think you are a serial killer. It's a movie and it's fake, and I've known that since I was a kid ... I don't want to run around trying to kill people and cuss. If anything, these movies teach you what not to do.”
She said she does respect Carrey’s decision, though, adding, “Each to their own.”
Carrey sent two tweets in June, saying that, “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.” He apologized for making it, then added, “I meant to say my apologies to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”
Carrey hasn’t promoted the film and did not attend the Comic-Con panel for the movie last month, notes AceShowBiz.
Kick Ass 2 hits theaters on Aug. 16.
