Joel Edgerton is reportedly in talks to play Ramses in Exodus, the Moses film in development by director Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the Great Gatsby actor is in talks to play Ramses, the Egyptian leader who was brought up as Moses’ brother, but became his adversary when Moses told him to let the Jews go. Christian Bale is playing Moses.
According to Deadline, the project was originally written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. Steve Zaillian worked on rewrites this year, getting the project moving again.
Edgerton starred in 2011’s Warrior and also Animal Kingdom before he appeared in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty last year. In 2013, he appeared in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and is set to work with Kirsten Dunst and Michael Shannon in Midnight Special.
Exodus was one of two Moses films in development in Hollywood, but Warner Bros.’ own project hit a wall when Steven Spielberg dropped out.
